The Facebook and Instagram outage started just before 10:30 a.m. ET on Tuesday, with a significant spike in outage reports around 10:24 a.m., totaling over 500,000 reports on Down Detector. Similarly, Instagram experienced a surge in outage reports, with over 77,000 reports around the same time.
Users reported being logged out of Facebook without the ability to log back in, while Instagram users encountered issues with their feeds not refreshing to display new posts.
As of 12:50 p.m. ET, Facebook and Instagram are gradually coming back online, with Meta reporting that various services like Ads Manager, Facebook & Instagram Shops, and Messenger Platform are "Recovering from disruptions" on the Meta Status website.
The outage affected users across the U.S., including cities like San Francisco, Los Angeles, Phoenix, Minneapolis, and various states such as Florida, Michigan, and New York.
Additionally, several other websites experienced increased outage reports, including Google Play, Threads, and X (formerly Twitter). Cloudflare also identified an issue and began implementing a fix shortly after 11 a.m. ET.
